A study on translation strategies of subtitle language variants in the movie "Green Book"
电影《绿皮书》中字幕语言变体的翻译策略探究

摘要

语言变体，即同一语言内部由于地域、社会、职业等方面的差异而呈现出的不同形式，例如方言、口音等。影视作品的台词中涵盖多种语言变体，如何将台词中的语言变体准确且传神地翻译成汉语便显得至关重要。本文以备受中国观众喜爱的电影《绿皮书》中的字幕翻译为例，阐明语言变体能够成功塑造不同角色的身份与社会地位，同时凸显语言变体翻译在字幕翻译中的重要性。同时，也能帮助译者在翻译语言变体时，能够创造性地运用目标语言中的方言、口音或社会语言变体，从而打造出既符合原作精神，又易于被目标观众理解的译文。

Abstract

Language variants refer to different forms of the same language due to differences in region, society, occupation, etc., such as dialects and accents. The lines of film and television works include a variety of language variants. It is crucial to accurately and vividly translate the language variants in the lines into Chinese. This paper takes the subtitle translation of the movie "Green Book" which is loved by Chinese audiences as an example to illustrate that language variants can successfully shape the identity and social status of different characters, and at the same time highlight the importance of language variant translation in subtitle translation. At the same time, it can also help translators to creatively use dialects, accents or social language variants in the target language when translating language variants, so as to create a translation that is both in line with the spirit of the original work and easy for the target audience to understand.
