A study on the English translation pathways of ethnic minority literature in Yunnan——A case study of Zhao Shu Tun
云南少数民族文学英译路径研究——以《召树屯》为例

摘要

本研究聚焦于中国少数民族文学作品的英译研究，以傣族经典文学作品《召树屯》为研究对象，深入探讨其英译现状及存在的问题。目前少数民族文学作品的英译大多依赖于汉译本作为中介，这种“源语—汉语—英语”的间接翻译模式往往导致文化信息的流失和文本原意的偏差。基于此，本研究提出了一条更为有效的云南少数民族文学作品英译路径，即通过源语文本的直接整理与专家译者合作的形式开展翻译，这一路径强调确保翻译过程中文化特色的保留和语言表达的准确性。本研究的理论意义在于丰富了翻译学的研究范畴，特别是在少数民族文学英译领域，为相关研究提供了新的视角和方法。其实践意义在于为少数民族文学作品的国际化传播提供了可行的翻译策略，有助于推动中国少数民族文化在全球范围内的认知与接受。

Abstract

This study focuses on the English translation of Chinese ethnic minority literary works, taking the classic Dai literary work Zhao Shu Tun as a case study to explore the current status and existing issues in its English translation. At present, the English translation of ethnic minority literary works predominantly relies on Chinese translations as intermediaries. This indirect translation model, which follows a "source language—Chinese—English" pathway, often results in the loss of cultural information and deviations from the original meaning of the text. In response, this study proposes a more effective approach for translating Yunnan ethnic minority literary works, namely, direct translation from the source text in collaboration with expert translators. This approach emphasizes preserving cultural distinctiveness and ensuring linguistic accuracy throughout the translation process. The theoretical significance of this study lies in its contribution to expanding the scope of translation studies, particularly in the field of English translation of ethnic minority literature, offering new perspectives and methodologies for related research. Its practical significance lies in providing a viable translation strategy for the international dissemination of ethnic minority literary works, thereby promoting global recognition and appreciation of Chinese ethnic minority cultures.
