A Study on Wang Zuoliang's aesthetics of poetry translation: A comparative perspective from Chinese and English poems
王佐良诗歌翻译美学探究—以中英诗歌为例

摘要

探究王佐良诗歌翻译美学的理论内涵与实践范式，填补现有研究对其实践策略系统化分析的空白，阐明其对中国翻译理论建设的学术价值。方法 基于翻译美学与诗歌翻译理论框架，选取王佐良英诗汉译（罗伯特·彭斯作品）及汉诗英译（《诗经》选段）的代表性案例，采用文本细读与对比分析法，重点考察其语言形式转换策略、文化意象移植机制及神韵传递路径。成果 研究发现王佐良的核心美学原则体现为：（1）以“神似优先于形似”为纲领，如彭斯诗歌韵律的本土化改造；（2）创造性转化文化意象（如“帝王相”重构 “king o' men” ）；（3）活用译入语诗性资源（汉语四字格/英语韵律）；（4）译者主体性主导的意境再造。其译作实现了诗歌艺术效果的跨文化重构。结论 王佐良的翻译美学继承发展了中国传统"神似"理论，为化解诗歌翻译中形式与内容、文化传真与读者接受的矛盾提供了方法论范式，对当代翻译理论与实践具有重要指导意义。

Abstract

This study investigates the theoretical connotations and practical paradigms of Wang Zuoliang's aesthetics of poetry translation, addressing the research gap in systematic analysis of his strategies, and clarifying its academic value for Chinese translation theory.
Methods Grounded in translation aesthetics and poetry translation theory, representative cases of Wang's English-Chinese (Robert Burns) and Chinese-English (The Book of Songs) translations were selected. Close reading and comparative analysis focused on his strategies for linguistic form adaptation, cultural image transplantation, and spirit conveyance. Findings: Wang's core aesthetic principles include: (1) prioritizing spiritual resemblance over formal similarity (e.g., localizing Burns' rhythm); (2) creatively transforming cultural images (e.g., reconstructing "king o' men" as "DiWangXiang"); (3) utilizing target-language poetic resources (Chinese four-character phrases/English prosody); (4) translator subjectivity-driven artistic conception reconstruction. His translations achieve cross-cultural poetic aesthetic reconstruction.
Conclusion  s Wang's translation aesthetics inherits and develops the Chinese "spiritual resemblance" theory, providing a methodological paradigm for resolving contradictions between form-content and cultural fidelity-reader acceptance in poetry translation, with significant implications for contemporary theory and practice.
