A study on English translation of the names of porcelain relics in the museum from the perspective of identification in new rhetoric
修辞同一视域下博物馆瓷器文物名称英译研究

摘要

中国文物是我国优秀文化最直接的载体，承载着中华民族的厚重历史和传统文明。文物名称的翻译不仅是一种跨语言、跨文化的交际活动，同时还是一种以国际传播为导向的修辞行为。文章基于修辞同一理论，选取Q市博物馆207件瓷器文物名称英译文本为语料，先总结文物名称英译的原则，再探讨文物名称英译的可操作性翻译策略，以提高地方博物名称英译质量，充分发挥文物在中华文化国际传播中的作用。

Abstract

Chinese cultural relics are the most direct carriers of China’s excellent culture, embodying the profound history and traditional civilization of the Chinese nation. The translation of cultural relics’ names is not only a cross-linguistic and cross-cultural communicative activity, but also a rhetorical act oriented to international communication. Based on the theory of Identification in New Rhetoric, the paper selects the Chinese and English texts of 207 pieces of porcelain relics’ names in Q City Museum as its corpus. It first summarizes the principles of English translation of cultural relics’ names, and then explores the practical translation strategies of English translation of cultural relics’ names, so as to improve the quality of English translation of the names of cultural relics of the local museums, and to give full play to the role of the cultural relics in the international communication of Chinese culture.
