From an Eco-Translatology perspective on the external translation of Yellow River culture : A case study of Qilu culture episodes in the documentary The Surging Yellow River
生态翻译学视角下黄河文化外译研究——以《大河奔腾》齐鲁文化篇章为例

摘要

黄河文化是中华文明的核心组成部分，其国际传播对于落实黄河流域生态保护和高质量发展国家战略、讲好中国故事具有重要意义。现有黄河文化外译研究多聚焦于书面文本，对纪录片这一多模态媒介关注不足。本文以纪录片《大河奔腾》齐鲁文化篇章为研究对象，基于生态翻译学“语言-文化-交际”三维转换框架，探讨黄河文化多模态外译的适应性转换策略。研究发现：纪录片字幕翻译面临时空限制、文化负载、多模态协同三重挑战，据此提炼出三条核心策略：语言维在时空限制下重构语言形式，文化维通过分层补偿显化文化缺省，交际维依托多模态协同传达交际意向。该“三维递进”翻译模式实现了从语言可读、文化可解到交际可感的层层深化，为新时代中国文化走出去提供了方法论支撑。

Abstract

The Yellow River culture, a cornerstone of Chinese civilization, holds significant value for international communication in implementing the national strategy of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin and telling China’s stories effectively. Existing studies on the overseas translation of Yellow River culture have primarily focused on written texts, neglecting documentary as a multimodal medium. Taking the Qilu Culture chapter of the documentary The Surging Great River as a case study, this paper explores adaptive transformation strategies in the multimodal overseas translation of Yellow River culture within the framework of Eco-Translatology’s “language-culture-communication” three-dimensional transformations. The findings reveal that documentary subtitle translation faces triple challenges: temporal-spatial constraints, cultural load, and multimodal synergy. Based on this, three core strategies are distilled: reconstructing linguistic forms under temporal-spatial constraints in the linguistic dimension, manifesting cultural defaults through layered compensation in the cultural dimension, and conveying communicative intentions via multimodal synergy in the communicative dimension. This “three-dimensional progressive” translation model achieves successive deepening from linguistic readability, cultural interpretability to communicative perceptibility, providing methodological support for Chinese culture to go global in the new era.
