Abstract
As Large Language Models (LLMs) are increasingly employed in the international dissemination of children’s literature, the ethical risks associated with AI-mediated translation of original Chinese children’s science fiction have become progressively salient. The complete cross-linguistic transmission of Chinese-style growth ethics has accordingly emerged as a pressing issue in translation studies. Based in Ethical Literary Criticism and Chesterman’s ethics of translation, this study takes China Orbit as a paradigmatic case to examine the erosion and deviation inflicted upon core ethical narratives in children’s literature, such as peer solidarity and collective dedication, within human–AI collaborative translation workflows. The analysis demonstrates that the inadequate perceptual capacity of LLMs regarding children’s ethics and indigenous cultural nuances, compounded by translators’ commercially constrained engagement in merely elementary proofreading, tends to result in the rewriting of collective narratives and the elision of psychological details pertaining to character development, thereby precipitating a deficit in ethical expression. In response to the ethical deviations identified in actual translational contexts, this paper proposes a tripartite optimization framework encompassing: the reconstruction of ethical proofreading workflows for translators, the refinement of narrative recognition models, and the systematic application of translation compensation strategies. By reconciling translational efficiency with ethical integrity, this research seeks to preserve the spiritual essence of domestic children’s science fiction and facilitate overseas young readers’ comprehension of the indigenous growth values embedded in the source texts.
