Classification of news headlines and information reconstruction in their translation
新闻标题的类型划分与翻译中的信息重构

摘要

新闻标题是新闻内容和价值的高度凝练，承担着传递信息、引导受众快速理解新闻内容、吸引读者阅读兴趣的重要功能。由于中英新闻标题在语言结构、表达习惯和新闻编写规范等诸多方面均存在差异，新闻标题翻译应依新闻类型及标题语言特点进行信息重构与语言再现，而非简单的语言转换。译者应在确保核心信息准确传递，提高译文标题的简洁性、可读性和传播效果。本文基于新闻报道的内容，将新闻标题划分为四类，即时政、经济科技、社会文化、体育娱乐四类，在此分类基础上系统分析各类标题的语言特征和翻译难点，针对不同场景下的标题翻译提供清晰的研究支撑，以期为不同类型中国新闻标题的英译实践提供针对性的参考，为新闻标题翻译提供高效的理论研究支持。

Abstract

The translation of news headlines is not merely a process of linguistic conversion. Due to differences between Chinese and English in language structure, discourse conventions, and headline writing, translators need to make some decisions concerning information selection, lexical choice, structural adjustment, and rhetorical transformation in the process of translation. In order to achieve international communication, this study focuses on information reconstruction and linguistic realization in the translation of headlines and explores the translation priorities and difficulties of different types of headlines. Therefore, based on the content and linguistic characteristics of news reports, the paper classifies news headlines into four categories: current affairs, economic and technological development and achievements, social and cultural climax, and sports and entertainment. It then examines the linguistic features and narrative patterns of each category and explores their relevant translation methods and the focus of translators. The analysis shows that different types of headlines have different translation priorities: political headlines emphasize the balance between standpoint and informational accuracy and credibility; economic and technological headlines stress precision and readability in terminology and the choice of vocabularies; social and cultural headlines frequently contain culture-loaded words, buzzwords, and emerging expressions, requiring translators to coordinate cultural connotation, generalization and functional adaptation; sports and entertainment headlines emphasize dynamic events, emotional intensity and theatricality due to vivid and expressive verbs. This study provides a reference for more effective Chinese news headline translation in international communication. Drawing on a comparative analysis of news headlines in Chinese and English, this study identifies patterns of information restructuring and aims to propose a flexible approach to translators rather than a one-size-fits-all equivalence model. This study also provides a reference for understanding the linguistic differences among different types of news headlines, improving the effectiveness of Chinese news headline translation in international communication.
